I grew up in the shadow of the Vietnam conflict and lost several family friends. My father flew in Laos and Cambodia before I was born. For that matter he was flying missions in Laos, and Cambodia before we were officially in Vietnam conflict.
The draft ended in 1973 but my friends and I still lived in fear of it in 1976 when I became 18.
I marched in support of Martin Luther King Jr. and for woman’s rights with my aunt Suzie. I was 10 years old when MLK was assonated.
I do not remember a time when this country was truly at peace but things are worse now. No one could have imagined 911 or things like suicide bombers in the 60s and 70s
Things have changes a lot but they have not really gotten any better.
This brings up these thoughts and feelings and so much more.
